Building Typing Skills & Engagement with Type Station (K-12)
LIMITED
Wednesday May 27, 2026 8:30am - 9:45am MDT
Limited Capacity seats available
This session will provide an overview of the platform (key features and settings) and strategies for implementing typing across grade levels and content areas.

In an increasingly digital world, keyboarding remains a fundamental skill for academic success. This session explores Type Station, Skill Struck’s gamified keyboarding platform designed to improve your students' typing speed and accuracy. In Type Station, students learn keyboarding basics, advance their typing skills, and learn how to use the keys needed for beginner-advanced coding.

  • What you’ll learn: How to track student progress, customize typing goals, and use the "gamified" elements to keep students motivated from kindergarten through high school.
  • Takeaway: Leave with a plan to integrate typing practice into your daily routine without sacrificing instructional time.

How do we move from seeing accessibility as a "checklist" to embracing it as a core design principle? This hands-on session, grounded in the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, moves beyond theory to explore the powerful, built-in features of Google Workspace and Chrome that level the playing field for every learner. You will engage in digital barrier simulations to build firsthand empathy for students with diverse visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive needs. After experiencing the challenges, you’ll master the solutions: from Live Captions to Voice Typing. Leave with a toolkit of simple shifts that move your classroom from basic compliance to true digital equity, ensuring every student has a flexible pathway to success.
